The downside of a catastrophe narrative...

It's possible. I think around the release of Al Gore's film An Inconvenient Truth in 2006, there was a very strong catastrophe narrative in news coverage that followed. This narrative opened claims made by advocates and by journalists to counter-charges of alarmism. I wrote about this in a paper published last year at the journal Environment:
